WineDown Wednesday: College Tours & Automatic Money Habits
🌹WineDown Wednesdays w/ Yours Truly🌹
Hey hey hey welcome to Wednesday!!! How is your week going? I know it has been a hot second once again, but I have been spending my last Wednesdays touring colleges with our middle daughter. It's sooooo weird, and yes, I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that she is a senior in high school. It truly feels like just yesterday she was 1 and I was struggling to break the habit of her calling me Alex 🙄 instead of mommy.
Surprisingly, her favorite campus so far has been UC. I thought she would have felt it was too small, but she absolutely fell in love with the campus as soon as we started walking around it. I love the closeness of it; it's just far enough for her to be on her own, but close enough that if a real emergency happened, I can be there in record time. Today's tour is taking us down to IU 🙄. Yes, a HUGE eye roll and my Boop will need to be impressed because I do not call the school by its name. She actually told me the other day I needed to grow up and stop being petty because I am steadily calling it Loosierville or The Loosiers 😂. I can't help it, although I do not watch sports, I am a Boilermaker 💛🖤.......so the name fits perfectly for me. For my Boop's goals, though IU is technically the strongest candidate, I think she really would prefer to be out of state instead of in state, but we will see; we still have quite a few campuses left to visit.
I am in the middle of the Automatic Millionaire, I honestly can not remember if I had started this book the last time we talked or if I was getting ready to. I am enjoying it too. At first glance, you would think it's a get-rich-quick scheme, but it is actually full of quite a few tips and tricks to automatically set yourself up in a great position for retirement. If you consider yourself someone who is not in the position you want to be for retirement, PICK THIS BOOK UP NOW!!!!!! Seriously, there are so many small, minute things you can be doing to put yourself in a better position starting now. Because most of you reading this email are my clients, one automatic change you can make today that will save you $100K's is.......making biweekly mortgage payments instead of one monthly. You do need to reach out to your mortgage company so it gets set up properly (who knew), but in the long run, not only will you pay off your mortgage almost 10 years earlier, but you will also save yourself from spending $100K's into someone else's pocket! The other tip, which is one I am still working on myself, is, paying myself first. No matter how big or small the amount is (because you have to start somewhere), take the time to take out that 5-15% (higher if you can), and put it into stocks, bonds, mutual funds, whatever your choice of growth investment.....your future self will thank you. I am about to start the chapter on the automatic debt-free lifestyle for credit cards too; I will let you know what the author says for making that automatic too. We are all just a few automatic steps away from being millionaires. 😎
